So by now, I’m kinda settling on a preferred line-up, which makes losing Doyle last match more annoying but these things are going to happen through the season and there will be no silverware without a strong second team. With that in mind, Hughes was drafted into the middle as our holding midfielder partnering Howson in an otherwise unchanged line-up.

After a nervous start where Maxwell hit us with a sucker punch on the counter-attack, confirming my earlier fears of a slow central defence, we got into the swing of things and held possession well. We looked a lot more dangerous on the wings this time round, with Snodgrass and Robinson both putting in solid performances but with Becchio looking out-of-sorts, their service fell by the wayside a little.

Once again I’m a little concerned by our accuracy in front of goal, with only a quarter of the shots on target, but all in all I’m reassured by the football we’re producing.
