New Signing : Angel

There is tendency, when things are going through a bad patch, to throw money at the problem – in fact, 5 Live were discussing this on Wednesday night following Fabianski’s real-life mare at Porto. This time, however, I feel justified in bringing in another new face (and yes, another Spaniard at that) considering our first choice strike force is but two deep, both of whom are having trouble finding the net.

Angel was offered to us on a free transfer by Tenerife after it was made clear he was surplus to requirements; Angel, for his part, was reluctant to leave the club he loved. Once again, free is a price I can agree with and with only £1,700 p/w (+ £875 appearance, £170 goal bonuses and a yearly rise of 10% until 2013) contract requirements, was within budget.

A young striker (22) with speed on his side (acc 16, pace 15) and good dribbling (14), finishing (15) and off-the-ball awareness (17), Angel is the perfect cover and, potentially replacement for, Beckford in our little and large strikeforce, a fact emphasised by his slight build (5’8″, 9st 12lbs).

Coach reports are slightly varied, ranging from 3 – 4 star ratings, though all seem to agree he’s close to full potential.
The fans, they are reserving judgement.
